“Catatan” series is the third solo exhibition after 'Heroes', 'Manjalara' and 'Nyejadi'. All pantings derive from sketches by Ismadi about various experiences of daily activities in the local community.

Each “Catatan” picture encapsulates a story of its own and is capable of revealing the spontaneous local communal activities and norms in daily lives to those who observe his works.

‘Catatan potrays exciting events, beautiful memories; funny as well as strange stories in the community that is guaranteed to touch the hearts of both art observers and public alike. Behind each painting is a clear message from the heart and mind of Ismadi to both art lovers and the next generation.

By early 90s, this "Budak Kampung" is already collaborating successfully with international painters in the national gallery and Europe. He was also involved in the production of sculptures, paintings and sketches that entails art lover to have them as part of their collection by then.

However, in recent years this artist seems to be forgotten and disappeared down memory lane of both local artist and art lovers alike, as he was using the time to contemplate on the meaning of art and trying to rejuvenate to greater height like the morning dew saluting the rising sun and trying to send a clearer message to the next generation to contemplate and review further on.

Apparently, his status in his community with “PERSADA art” changes drastically, as his new series of painting stir real impact and strong shock to his fellow artists. Ismadi was seen as a bold and confident artist, displaying cynical comments, incorporating storytelling techniques and frank description on ways of life in a local culture that is full of controversy, whilst, at the same time projecting a sketch that is fairly unsophisticated, 'opposed' to the ordinary display by other local artists around.

Since 2007, he had participated in exhibitions in several countries in Europe such as Rotterdam, Frankfurt and Paris together with other well known and promising artists alike. This shows his aggressive and bold approach. Ismadi’s way is well accepted in the art community, both local and abroad!
